Extending Global Awareness about Culture – Lesson from Shandong

There is news that Shandong Radio and Television Station is building Oriental Sc reening Rooms in Egypt. Such screening rooms have already been built in Greece, Uzbekistan, Australia and other countries. The purpose of these screening rooms is to show a documentary presentation of the international version of Shining Treasures of China.

This appears to be the global outreach of China to make the world aware of its cultural and civilisational achievements through documentaries. Although the historical, cultural and civilisational achievements of ancient societies such as China, India, Egypt and Mesopotamia etc. are already well known in the academic circles, there are large populations across the world who are not much aware of these civilisations. Besides, new generations of young people are added every few years who may not be aware of these ancient civilisations.

India can learn from these types of cultural strategies of China about how to make a mark in the cultural and academic global platform by making the global populations aware of the ancient achievements of India in the field of arts, culture, performance, dance and music, cuisines, festivals etc. Care must be taken to showcase India’s diversity while screening such cultural documentaries. Inda has a lot to show to world in these domains of knowledge and India must employ this cultural strategy.
